The 2010 ReadMOre book selection is The Mysterious Stranger and Other Stories by Mark Twain.

In honor of the centennial of Mark Twain’s death in 2010, the ReadMOre committee has selected four colorful short stories spanning the career of Missouri’s most famous author and humorist. The following selected Twain stories may be found in one of several published short story anthologies

The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County
The £1,000,000 Bank-Note

Supported by the Missouri Humanities Council, ReadMOre engages libraries, schools, avid readers, private book clubs, booksellers and others in focusing their attention on a compelling piece of literature. Interested readers read the selection and have opportunities to attend book discussions and participate in associated programming hosted across the state in libraries and schools, and at book clubs and other organizations in March, April and May.

In 2010, the Missouri Humanities Council will sponsor Mark Twain scholar and impersonator George Frein,  to present his Mark Twain program. Ten libraries were selected by a competitive writing process to host Dr. Frein as Mark Twain and the Cape Central High School Library is one of the ten (and the ONLY school library!)

George Frein, in the persona of Mark Twain, will join us in the Cape Central Library on April 13, 2010 from 11:00-1:00 when the library becomes  transformed into the riverboat Nebraska.  One of the last riverboats to travel upriver prior to the blockades established during the Civil War, the Nebraska docked in Cape Girardeau with Mark Twain onboard. We will capture these moments as together we "travel" to St. Louis dining on period-appropriate foods and relishing in the ambience of the pre-war era with "Mark Twain" telling stories along with additional entertainment.  The community is invited to join us for this amazing experience at no cost.  Please phone the CHS Library:  334-0644 if you will be joining us;  $6.00 will be the cost of the light (and authentic) lunch.
