Pluto:  New Horizons

NASA has a mission to Pluto that launched on January 19, 2006 at 1:00 pm CST.
This mission will take 9 years to reach Pluto arriving the summer of 2015.

We are sending our names on this spacecraft.  Our names have been put on a CD that will be onboard this spacecraft, so in some small way, we will be part of this mission.

Each student received a participation certificate to show that they are included on this mission.  We figured out that our 7 and 8 year old 2nd graders will be 16 or 17 years old by the time this spacecraft actually reaches Pluto
We thought that was way cool!!

Check out video of the launch.
We watched it live on NASA TV - it was so exciting!!
