St. Patrick's Day Project

We participated in this project sponsored by:
JenuineTech.com

      Hypothesis
We learned that a hypothesis is an "educated guess."
Our class hypothesis was:

There will be more rainbows
than any other shapes in a box of Lucky Charms.

Here's the results of student votes for the class hypotheses:
Pot of Gold
l
Clovers
3
Moons
3
Rainbows
7
Horseshoes
2
Shooting Stars
0
Hearts
l
Balloons
0

      Tally Marks
We have learned that tally marks
help us count things easily.
Here's some samples of students' tallies of their shapes.

      Graphs
We practiced making a bar graph.

      Class Results
Here's the results of our whole class.
Graph was made in SMART Board Notebook.
Our class results showed that there were more
Shooting Stars than any other of the shapes.

      Student Results
We learned that not everyone had the same results.
Students recorded their results on a
Project Page I created for them.
Here's some of their responses:

Student #4:

Why the Class Hypothesis was wrong:
There were more stars than rainbows.

Student #4's personal hypothesis selected Moons and the response was:
There were more rainbows than moons.

Student #7:

Why the Class Hypothesis was wrong:
The class guessed wrong.

Student #7's personal hypothesis selected Clovers and the response was:
It is not correct since I thought that we had the most clover.

Student #16:

Why the Class Hypothesis was wrong:
There were more shooting stars than rainbows.

Student #16's personal hypothesis selected Rainbows and the response was:
There were more shooting stars than rainbows.

Student #17:

Why the Class Hypothesis was wrong:
The rainbow was not correct when we found out that the stars were correct.

Student #17's personal hypothesis selected Rainbows and the response was:
I thought that the rainbows were the most then people got more stars so it turned out that the stars were correct.

Student #20:

Why the Class Hypothesis was wrong:
We had more shooting stars than the rest.

Student #20's personal hypothesis selected Clovers and the response was:
The clovers had 62 but that was down lower than the shooting stars.
